On Friday, June 20, 2025, global music icon, hitmaker, the greatest songwriter alive and Georgia native Sean Garrett was honored with two prestigious awards at the Georgia State Capitol, recognizing his monumental contributions to the music industry and his unwavering commitment to empowering youth.
Garrett, known as “The Pen” behind some of the biggest records of the past two decades, received the Outstanding Georgia Citizen Award, signed by Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and presented by State Representative Park Cannon. He also received a Proclamation from the City of Atlanta (District 3), presented by Demetrius McCray from the Atlanta Mayor’s Office, on behalf of Councilman Amos.
With a resume that includes 18 Billboard Hot 100 hits and over 52 No. 1 records worldwide, Garrett’s influence on pop, R&B, and hip-hop is legendary. His work with Beyoncé, Usher, Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Summer Walker and many more has shaped the sound of a generation.
These honors also highlight Garrett’s newest initiative, Amplify Your Music—a community-based program designed to provide middle school students across the Atlanta area, including those in Atlanta Public Schools and Fulton County Schools, with access to instruments, music education, and mentorship.
“To be honored in the same city where my dreams began is humbling,” said Garrett. “Music gave me a voice—and now I’m using that voice to uplift the next generation.”
Amplify Your Music is currently being introduced to schools throughout Metro Atlanta, helping bridge the gap in creative access for underserved students.
