Often called “Big Bronx” in the Bronx, Frederick Thomas – Fred the Godson, will be forever known to me as “GORDO”! Sadly, Fred the Godson, departed this life on April 23,2020, the hip-hop world still mourns and miss his energetic smile, persona, and flow. Regarded as a legend in New York, and the eastern seaboard, Fred the Godson is the best to ever bless a mic. Literally, the man had the streets in a chokehold and even mainstream artists from New York know one fact “GORDO” was and still – the undisputed champion.
Well ladies and Gentlemen, brace yourself; “Gordo” is back with a posthumous offering ‘Beautiful Heartbreak’ {Brook Angeles Remix} featuring Brook Angeles. Produced by @thepoetsociety & @azadwatches “Beautiful Heartbreak” is the first single of 2025 and is promised to be a part of a full length project to be released later this year. The track is a soulful story of heartbreak spoken eloquently by Fred The Godson spitting about a love lost but never forgotten. “Love from that one, is the only one you need, but loosing it feels like a knife”. Brook Angeles from Brook Angeles & The Vibe laces “Beautiful Heartbreak” with his euphonious voice throughout the chorus. A match made in heaven.
While fans have been starving for another Fred the Godson project which hasn’t been release since the posthumous album “Ascension” in 2021. Well it looks like we don’t have to wait no longer as today, Friday, January 24, 2025 premieres the release of “Beautiful Heartbreak” featuring Brook Angeles. And here it izzzzzz, let’s run it UP
Statement from Brook Angeles & The Vibe – “With great pleasure I’m announcing the first release of 2025, “Beautiful Heartbreak [Brook Angeles Remix]”drops this FRIDAY 1/24/25. This NEVER heard before remix is the first release from a collab project between NY Rap Legend @fredthegodsonmusic & Songwriter/Soul Artist @brookangelesvibes w/ music prod by @thepoetsociety & in collaboration w/ @azadwatches. At the time of his untimely passing Fred & Brooks were working on a collaboration album, this is the first record being released from that project. For all Fred The Godson fans, you’ve never heard Fred like this”

Fred the Godson quickly rose to the top of New York’s rap scene in the 2000’s as a supreme freestyler, battle rapper, and pure lyrical genius to the likes never seen. I know when most people here of NY, Biggie and Jay Z are the first to be mentioned, but trust me, the streets know who was the King. From punch lines, to headlines, Gordo was the best.
In 2011, Fred the Godson stamped his place in history with his iconic mixtapes featured in the DJ Drama Gangsta Grillz series – “City of God”, and “Armageddon”. From there, Fred the Godson name became household with being named as one of XXL artists on the rise and his numerous collaborations with rappers such as Raekwon, Cam’ron, Pusha T, and Jadakiss made him a hot commodity. In 2011, he teamed up with Jadakiss on the hit single “Toast to That. Fred the Godson left the realm of being a good rapper, elevating to staple of legendary! Before his illness, Gordo was on pace to take over the industry, and many feel he would of exceeded and excelled to the ranks of not only nominated, but Grammy Award winning artist.
Shortly after his untimely passing, rappers Fat Joe, Jim Jones, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. and Councilman Raphael Salamanca, Jr. joined the residents of the south Bronx in the renaming of Leggett Avenue and Kelly Street as Frederick “Fred the Godson” Thomas Avenue in his honor. Fred the Godson won the streets because of his talent, but the man had a heart of gold, and he quickly became a fan favorite for his infamous freestyle sessions on just about every urban radio station in the land.
