Lisa, one-fourth of K-pop phenomenon Blackpink, has officially stepped into the solo spotlight with the release of Alter Ego, her first full-length album. Released through Lloud and RCA Records, the project marks her return as a solo artist following her departure from YG Entertainment and Interscope Records in 2023. Showcasing her versatility across rap, dance, and pop, Alter Ego signals a bold new chapter for the Thai superstar.
Lisa is the second Blackpink member to drop a solo album, following Rosé’s Rosie. Her latest release arrives at a pivotal moment, coinciding with her acting debut in The White Lotus Season 3 and an upcoming performance at the Academy Awards—two high-profile ventures that further solidify her status as a global force.
A culmination of her artistic evolution, Alter Ego builds upon the hip-hop-driven foundation of Lisa’s 2021 debut EP, LALISA. The album’s title reflects its conceptual nature, introducing multiple personas—Roxi, Sunni, Kiki, Speedi, and Vixi—each representing different facets of her artistry. This creative approach allows Lisa to traverse a wide sonic spectrum, blending styles and vocal techniques with ease.
Like Blackpink’s genre-blurring discography, Alter Ego confidently shifts between sounds while maintaining Lisa’s distinctive edge. Tracks such as Elastigirl and Thunder radiate bold sensuality, with the former offering playful bravado and the latter settling into a hypnotic groove. Fxck Up the World, featuring Future, channels the high-energy confidence of Blackpink’s biggest hits, while Badgrrrl makes a clear statement: “I can be your bad girl,” Lisa raps. “Don’t treat me like a lady.”
Among the album’s standout moments is Moonlit Floor (Kiss Me), a modern reimagining of Sixpence None the Richer’s 1998 hit Kiss Me. While it trades some of the original’s wistful charm for contemporary polish, the track taps into the current appetite for nostalgic reinvention.
The 15-track album boasts an impressive roster of collaborators, including Doja Cat, Raye, Rosalía, Future, Megan Thee Stallion, and Tyla. Five singles preceded its release: Rockstar, New Woman, Moonlit Floor (Kiss Me), Born Again, and Fxck Up the World. Lisa’s ability to seamlessly adapt across genres is amplified by these high-profile features—Future, Raye, and Doja Cat join forces on Born Again, while Megan Thee Stallion injects signature swagger into Rapunzal. Rosalía’s Spanish verses elevate New Woman, and Tyla’s smooth vocals add depth to When I’m With You.
Despite the album’s collaborative star power, Lisa shines brightest when she commands the stage alone. “Make way, make way, make way/Taking space up in the sky,” she declares on Thunder—a fitting proclamation for an artist stepping into her own. With Alter Ego, Lisa isn’t just making a statement—she’s staking her claim at the top.
