The Miami Dolphins released wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. on Friday, cutting ties with the former Pro Bowl star after a brief and underwhelming stint with the team.

Beckham, 31, had missed the past two days of practice due to what the team referred to as personal reasons. His release ends a tenure that began with promise when he signed a one-year deal in May but ultimately failed to yield significant results.

Beckham started the season on the physically unable-to-perform (PUP) list following offseason knee surgery. He didn’t make his debut until Week 5 against the New England Patriots. Over nine games, he recorded just nine receptions for 55 yards, never finding a consistent role in Miami’s high-powered offense.

Initially brought in to be the third option in the Dolphins’ receiving corps behind All-Pros Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, Beckham struggled to adapt. The emergence of rookie receiver Malik Washington and an increased focus on tight end Jonnu Smith further limited Beckham’s opportunities.

This marks the latest chapter in a career filled with highs and lows. Beckham skyrocketed to fame during his first five NFL seasons with the New York Giants, earning three Pro Bowl nods and becoming one of the league’s most electrifying playmakers. However, his career has since taken a nomadic turn, with stints in Cleveland, Baltimore, Los Angeles, and now Miami.

Beckham enjoyed his greatest postseason success with the Los Angeles Rams, where he played a key role in their Super Bowl victory during the 2021-22 season. Yet injuries have derailed much of his career since. Last year, he totaled 35 catches for 565 yards and three touchdowns with the Baltimore Ravens before being released in March.

For Beckham, this release leaves questions about his future in the NFL. Once one of the game’s most dynamic talents, his recent struggles and injuries raise concerns about whether he can recapture his former glory.

As for the Dolphins, they continue their playoff push with Hill, Waddle, and Washington anchoring an offense that has emerged as one of the most potent in the league. The release of Beckham underscores their confidence in their current group of playmakers.
